Positive Technologies has expanded its Standoff Bug Bounty program, offering researchers up to 500,000 rubles for confirmed methods to bypass its PT Application Firewall PRO and PT Application Firewall Cloud solutions.
The initiative focuses on identifying weaknesses in the protective mechanisms themselves. Participants are invited to test traffic filtering capabilities, attack detection rules, and the administrative management layer that configures the WAF. The goal is to find scenarios where malicious requests pass through protection without being blocked or detected.
According to the published program rules, researchers must demonstrate practical, reproducible attacks rather than submitting theoretical reports or automated scanner output. Particular attention is given to non-standard request formats and specific HTTP processing behaviors that could allow an attacker to reach a vulnerable backend application even when the WAF itself contains no obvious flaws.
Reward tiers differ between the two products. For PT Application Firewall PRO, high-severity issues pay 150,000–300,000 rubles while critical findings are compensated at 300,000–500,000 rubles. The cloud version offers 50,000–200,000 rubles for high-severity issues and up to 500,000 rubles for critical ones. Final payout amounts depend on the confirmed impact of each discovery.
Anton Zhabolenko, Director of AppSec and WAF Products at Positive Technologies, stated that validated bypass techniques will be used to refine detection rules and improve the overall effectiveness of the protective solutions.
