Apple to Scan Publicly Shared iCloud Photos and Files for Harmful Content
Apple has announced that it will begin scanning photos and files shared via iCloud links for harmful content. The checks will apply only when users select the Anyone with the Link sharing option and will start with iOS, iPadOS, macOS and visionOS 27.3. To enable the scanning, files shared publicly will no longer be end-to-end encrypted, even if both the sharer and recipients have Advanced Data Protection enabled. Apple states it may remove, block or alter flagged content and can disable user accounts or report users to authorities. The company has not disclosed the exact criteria used to classify content as harmful or the reasons behind the new scanning policy.
